Benjamin H. Hamlet

Benjamin H. Hamlet was born and raised in Virginia Beach. He graduated from Norfolk Academy in 1995. Ben received a baseball scholarship from Old Dominion University and was a four year letter winner for the Monarchs. In 1996, he was part of the 1996 Colonial Athletic Association Championship team which competed in the NCAA Regional Tournament in Clemson, South Carolina. In 1999, Ben won the Wilkins-Howard Scholar Athlete of the Year Award for being the top male student-athlete at Old Dominion University.
Ben began his legal education at the University of Baltimore School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland in 1999. Following a year of study there, he transferred to the University of Richmond School of Law, and graduated with the class of 2002. During law school, Ben worked as an intern at the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney's Office for two summers and a semester at the Chesterfield County Commonwealth Attorney's Office. During his internships at the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, he built a strong foundation for criminal law and gained valuable courtroom experience by utilizing his third-year practice certificate to handle numerous felony preliminary hearings and a drug distribution jury trial. Since the day he was admitted to the Virginia State Bar, Ben has devoted his practice to defending the rights of individuals accused of committing crimes in state and federal court. The competitiveness that Ben had on the baseball field has carried over to the courtroom. He fights for his clients in every phase of the judicial process. Ben looks forward to every new case as a fresh challenge to succeed.
In his free time, Ben enjoys community involvement through mentoring high school student-athletes at Booker T. Washington High School. He believes that is very important for today's young athletes to understand the importance of being successful in all aspects of life, not just on the field.
Ben resides in Virginia Beach with his wife and two daughters. They enjoy traveling, playing tennis and going to college football games.
